Uni warehouse rave 2016 had its entry doors closed early tonight by the police as the venue’s security failed to calm the uncooperative crowd.
The venue closed their entrance doors at around 1:00am as the crowd of students grew aggressively impatient with the entry process, pushing themselves passed the bouncers and through the main entrance.
The bouncers retaliated, throwing students out of the entrance. Some students were harmed as they were caught in the middle of the bouncers restraining movement and the students pushing from the back.
An ambulance and two large police vans were called the venue around 2:00am after the situation had not improved.
One policeman attempted to communicate with the crowd through a megaphone, however, cooperation from the crowd was maintained at a minimum.
Sergeant 5351, said: “The rave is over, everyone needs to leave. The entrance doors will not be reopened. You all need to go home”.
AGE Entertainment, the organisers of the event, said: “The venue contacted the security provider who on the night then failed to provide an adequate level of staff. This has been recorded as a major fail point of the event”.
“To further clarify, we did not oversell the event. The official venue capacity stands at 1,700. We sold 1,200 tickets.
“It’s also worth noting that there were over 700 people that made it into the event successfully, this event was not cancelled”.
Tickets are usually non-refundable in these situations due to terms and conditions, however, students have been sympathised with and offered a compensation package. The organiser hopes that this will show goodwill and rebuild the trust in the brand and service.
