Yazmin Johnson
BA Media and Communications student
About Me
Hi, my name is Yazmin Johnson and I am in my final year at Birmingham City University.
I am currently studying a bachelor degree in Media and Communications. I have created this online profile to showcase my work and experiences that I have created over the course of these three years at university.
I have participated in a variety of modules which have enabled me to gain skills in several different fields of the media industry.
During my first year, I had taken Radio Production, Journalism in Practice, Television Studio Production and Media Relations. I also engaged in several theory modules where I wrote research reports and weekly essays. These focused on a series of theoretical frameworks that are essential in understanding the process behind the practical aspects of the media industry.
In my second year, I have already completed the practical modules of PR Techniques and Broadcast Journalism. These combined and developed my skills from the first year. I have also produced another research report and a series of essays building on the theoretical frameworks that were introduced last year. I also have Television Magazine and Chat Shows and Specialist Reporting modules to look forward to this year.
In my final year, I took Communications Management and Promotional Culture which are two modules I felt I needed to partake in to further my development within the media relations industries.
Work Experience
June 2017
During the summer of 2017, I worked with BT Sports on both live and pre-recorded shows such as The Clare Balding Show and Rugby Tonight. This was a great opportunity working as a Production Assistant and use proficiencies that I had learnt throughout my first year at university.
Sept - Nov, 2018
At the end of last year, I had an internship with WPR Agency in Birmingham where I developed as a communications professional. I've made some great contacts within this company and learnt skills that I can take on to my career.
